Hello! I’m Mehreen, a recent Computer Science graduate from LUMS interested in the intersection of tech & design. As you might have already guessed, I spend most of my day in front of my laptop screen. Other than that I love spending time with cats, being outdoors clicking pictures of flowers, travelling and sometimes singing to myself.<\/p>

They say it all starts with a dream! LWiC started off as a dream for me. A dream that would change the landscape of computer science at LUMS & empower more young females to enter the field of technology. I can’t believe we turned this into a reality! It\u2019s been a year and it makes me so proud to see how far we’ve come. LWiC to me is family. It\u2019s a lifelong connection. As I transition into this new phase of being a woman in tech, my advice to all young girls out there is to never stop trying out new things. Try going out of your comfort zone every now and then. Reach for the skies and maybe just have lots of fun? Here’s to strong women. May we know them. May we be them. Hey, I am Harum, a Computer Science graduate from the LUMS-Zoom batch of 2021. As of now, I am pursuing my graduate studies in Design, Innovation and Technology at Harvard University. During my time at LUMS, I always found myself most enthusiastic about making or thinking of something innovative. Being someone who always wanted to give back to society, I found the perfect blend of the two. After my time at Harvard, I plan to work in User Experience Design & Research to solve problems individuals or society face by leveraging technology.<\/p>

LWiC is a community very close to my heart because I grew with it; every day I learned so much from such incredible women around me. Through LWiC, I explored so many sides of myself, some I never knew I had. I hope this society has the same, if not better, effect on all women at LUMS. <\/p>\n

Even though my time at LWiC has ended, I hope to work towards resolving the issue of gender disparity in tech in whatever capacity I can. Hi, I’m Anusheh!<\/p>

\u00a0When Mehreen first reached out to me with the idea of establishing a society for women in Computer Science, I knew instantly this was something LUMS needed. Fast forward a roller coaster of a year, here we are with LWiC as a force to be reckoned with. I loved my time piloting the Events and Outreach departments in LWiC’s first year and I’m sure LWiC is a place where people will not only find their true calling but a solid support system to help them along the way. As I now embark on my new adventure to pursue graduate studies at Carnegie Mellon University, my advice for any female Computer Scientist is to not shy away from any opportunity that comes their way and to constantly scavenge for more. You have limitless potential to offer. The world of Computing needs you. So shoot for the stars. Hey Hayat here!<\/p>

During my time at Lums, I was pretty much a typical nerd cooped up in an SDSB DR frantically trying to meet deadlines. My interests in CS lie in programming, design and development. Outside academia, I love travelling, animals, painting and exploring new hobbies.<\/p>

Joining CS was a major decision in my life and I struggled with it for over a year. It took me a long time to gain confidence in myself for CS and stop second guessing myself every bump in the road. Going into a male-dominated field without any background in it was nothing short of daunting! So, when the idea of this society was brought forward, I thought of it as an opportunity to play my role in ensuring that my juniors and many batches to come won’t have to feel this way.<\/p>

Fast forwarding one year later, I couldn’t be more proud of what we have created. It’s not just a society, it’s a community for women to come together, learn from each other and support each other; it’s a platform for women to unite, face our challenges and take on the world together. We faced many challenges throughout this year but what we have achieved can change the lives of many girls who we may inspire in even a small way.<\/p>

\u00a0So a message for everyone reading this: Never back down from any challenge, no matter how daunting it may be . Be the change that you want to see and inspire others like yourself. And most importantly, Believe in Yourself.<\/p>
